Our Size Chart

Getting the right fit is the single most important part of choosing a hat. A well-fitted hat sits comfortably at the mid-forehead, about 1cm above the eyebrows, without pinching at the sides or lifting at the back. To find your size, simply take a flexible tape measure and wrap it around your head at this point, keeping it level all the way around. Use the chart below to match your measurement to your Hills Hats size.

Hat Anatomy

When creating a bespoke hat, understanding the different parts of the hat — and where they sit on your head — is key to getting the perfect fit. The crown determines the height and overall shape, while the brim affects the hat’s proportions and character. Most importantly, your head measurement determines the hat size and should be taken around the widest part of your head, where the hat will naturally sit. Use the diagram below as a guide to familiarise yourself with the anatomy of a hat and the measurements that may be considered when creating your bespoke piece.

How to measure your head

Step One

Get a soft measuring tape

Use a flexible tape measure, or a piece of string if you don't have one.

Step Two

Position the tape

Wrap it around your head, sitting just above your eyebrows and ears, where your hat will naturally sit.

Step Three

Keep it comfortable

Make sure the tape is snug but not tight — you want to measure where the hat will actually sit.

Step four

Check your measurement

Take the measurement in centimetres and use this number to select your hat size. If using string, simply measure the string against a ruler or tape measure.
